Great typography video

A very talented bunch of students have created an extra special video for the 5′th annual Typophile Film Festival.

It speaks for itself. Check it out: http://www.vimeo.com/6382511

The Southern Highlands Online - http://www.thesouthernhighlands.com.au -  almost always ranks in the top 1 or 2 positions for most professional services, including website and graphic design, in the Southern Highlands, NSW, Australia.

I had listed on the site a few years ago and had not bothered to check on the site for some time. Lately I've been looking at the whole Search Engine Optimisation SEO thing, to see how to improve my site's ranking on Google. I tried to contact them to see about moving my listing under a different category.

As at 15 September 2009 the message on the contact page looks like this:

Curious, isn't it.

Further clicks through the website reveal a blog that has no entry since Tuesday 15 November 2005 (amusingly entitled "Google Analytics"), a news page with no events for 2009 but a stack of current Google Ads.

I hope all this is just a precurser to a relaunched site but it does no favours to anyone running a business in the Southern Highlands (I include myself, here) or wanting to find a business, to be shown an outdated site at the #1 ranking. Try it for yourself.

IKEA have changed the font in their catalogues!!

This Crikey article is a great read. It has turned into a full blown expose of what constitutes a good font in print and on the computer screen. It does make me laugh when I think of how fussy we can get, as designers, when deciding on the best font/s to use when designing.

Have a read. There are a lot of great posts here, including this: "To designers, who care for their type and fonts like policemen care for doughnuts, IKEA swapping Futura for Verdana is an exceedingly dumb thing".

NOTE: Some parts of Crikey are subscriber only.
